About Us
Meet the friendly Doctors and Staff of Hanover Green Veterinary Clinic…
Dr. Larry Winters opened the Hanover Green Veterinary Clinic in 1977 and has owned and worked in the practice for 31 years. Dr. Winters attended Ohio University for his undergraduate degree and then graduated from veterinary school at Ohio State University in 1972. Way back then, veterinarians were trained in all areas of veterinary medicine with specialties becoming more common in later years. Therefore, Dr. Winters is competent in most surgical procedures, as well as treatments of a variety of medical problems. In the earlier years, Dr. Winters treated small and large animals, making house calls to outlying areas. Although he liked treating large animals, the time necessary to make ‘farm calls’ allowed time for little else. Dr. Winters has become proficient in the treatment of all small animals, exotic pets, and wildlife. He is agreeable to seeing almost any animal that the client can get to our parking lot. Dr. Winters has been married even longer that he has be in practice and has two grown children. His daughter graduated from Ohio University and his son from James Madison University. Family time at the beach, gardening, and fishing trips to faraway places is what he enjoys most. The family has had many pets. Currently the family has 2 Golden doodles named Izzy and Stella.
Bernadette our Office Manager, is Dr. Winters’ wife. Bern, as we affectionately call her, started the practice with Dr. Winters and has been here ever since. Bern grew up in Ohio as well…a town called Warren. She attended Ohio University where she met Dr. Winters and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. Bern has managed to help run Hanover Green, raise 2 children, and maintain her career. She has recently completed her PhD in Clinical Social Work, works full time at her practice, and part time here at Hanover Green. When she actually has time for anything else, she enjoys a nice book and being at the beach with Dr. Winters and their ‘puppies’.
Dr. Beverly Creasy joined our staff on a part-time basis in January 2004, becoming full time in November 2005. Dr. Creasy graduated from UVA Law School in 1985, practicing law in Oregon and California until 1995. She graduated magna cum laude from Auburn University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Dr. Creasy worked in the South Side for four years before joining our practice as a relief vet in 2004. She’s been with us ever since. Dr. Creasy loves animals of all kinds and has always had a soft spot for rescuing and placing otherwise ‘unplaceable’ animals. Her family consists of 10 cats, 4 dogs and a 46-year-old turtle named ‘Morris’.
Dr. Desiree Brooke started with Hanover Green almost a year ago, back in May 2008. Dr. Brooke grew up in Mechanicsville, graduating from Lee Davis High School. She attended William & Mary for her undergraduate degree and continued on to Virginia Tech for her Veterinary Degree. While finishing up her degree, she worked briefly at Hanover Green for her externship. This is when we all came to know and love her. Dr. Brooke loves all small animals, but felines and ferrets hold a special place in her heart. Dr. Brooke has never turned down an opportunity to shop. Watch out Short Pump! She enjoys a quiet evening reading and cuddling with her 3 cats, Jackson, Atticus, and Frankie, a rescue from Hanover Green.
Dr. Sarah Greenwalt joined the staff in November 2004 and now works as our relief vet. Chase 2000 Staff of the Year Administrative assistant and receptionist, Chase has been with us longer than any other employee…17 years! She began as a receptionist, quickly becoming a supervisor, and has since advanced to assistant office manager. Chase often fills in as a receptionist, modeling professionalism in that position. As an administrative assistant, Chase fulfills many duties. She processes and completes multiple projects that help us manage our business. As you can see, she is a very valuable employee. Chase is married and has two daughters. She lives in Mechanicsville and has 3 dogs, 4 cats and numerous chickens, rodents and reptiles.
Becky 2003 & 2005 Staff of the Year Becky joined our staff in June 2000 as a receptionist and has since been promoted to Hospital Desk Supervisor. Becky greets our clients much like they would be greeted if they were visiting her at her home. Becky is passionate about animals. Many of our patients pull their owners into Hanover Green so they can be welcomed by Becky. We have taken in sick or injured wildlife and strays since our business opened in 1977, with Becky streamlining that process. She has established working relationships with wildlife rehabilitators, enabling us to care for the wildlife. She then arranges for them to be moved out of the hospital so they can be nurtured, cared for, and released by rehabbers. Becky has one son who is currently in the Army National Guard. She lives with her fiancé in New Kent. Becky enjoys arts & crafts and cooking. She has 5 cats, 2 dogs, and Alice, an African Gray parrot with no feathers that she adopted from Dr. Winters.
Sue a “come here” from Boston, began at Hanover Green in 1996 as a receptionist. She managed our boarding department until she left us for a short time to pursue corporate work and then horse racing. She returned to us September 2007, and is now working full time as a receptionist. Sue owns 2 horses and also shows horses in her spare time. She enjoys live music, art, and of course, horses. She lives in Ashland with her son, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 turtles.
Diane left her career as a horse trainer in a northwestern suburb of Chicago to move to Mechanicsville in 2007. She ran her own business, Misty Marsh Farm, where she taught, trained and showed Hunter-Jumpers. She has a degree from Northeastern Illinois University in management, which has helped her to be a better PM supervisor at Hanover Green. She enjoys horseracing, gardening, travel and anywhere with a beach. She and her husband take care of her 5 cats and their dog, Addie.
Pat ventured over into the animal side of medicine when she joined our staff in January 2007 as a Technician/Veterinary Assistant. She grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina before making her way to Virginia. She graduated from MCV with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology. She worked in a medical laboratory for people for years until coming to Hanover Green. Since then, her experience and knowledge has been a valuable asset to our laboratory services. An avid supporter of the Richmond SPCA and B.A.R.K., a canine rescue group, Pat also enjoys participating in pet therapy programs and rally trials with any one of her 5 dogs.
Jessica another New Englander, started with us way, way back in November 1994. She grew up in Exeter, Maine, attending Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire. She graduated with a degree in Biology and has travelled since. Living in several towns in Maine and then on to Oklahoma, she made her way to Richmond where she is a full time teacher of Science at one of the local schools. Jess started here as a kennel assistant and has gradually moved through almost every position we have here at Hanover Green. Currently, she works part-time as one of our Technician’s Assistants. A true Boston Red Sox fan, she’ll never miss a chance to razz on Marie, our Yankee fan, and she even named her dog Fenway. Jessica enjoys anything outdoors, including softball, which you may find her coaching in her free time.
Susan is one of our seasoned veterans, joining Hanover Green way back in May 2000. After working at several area veterinary clinics over a span of 17 years, she came to be our surgical tech. Her responsibilities included assisting Dr. Winters during surgeries and ensuring the operating room was organized and ready for the next surgery. Susan took a small break in 2006 and returned as a Veterinary / Kennel Assistant. While Susan enjoys hanging out in the kennel with our boarding friends, we can’t help but utilize her for her animal handling skills. No snarling, hissing cat intimidates Susan! Susan is a true southern lady, having been born and raised right here in Richmond, attending Highlands Springs High School. When not singing in her church choir, or playing the piano, she enjoys gardening with her husband and chasing around her 2 grandsons. Susan’s animal friends include 2 dogs and 1 large cat.

She graduated from Lee Davis High School in 2006, and has continued to work with us as a veterinary assistant. Lauren has grown in her ability to assist the technicians and our doctors. Her responsibilities are to clean, feed, give medications and take status checks on hospitalized and boarding animals. She has become a skilled animal handler, a necessity which allows our medical staff to treat our patients without the the patient harming our staff.
